Magnificent 7 Ride

Once Upon a Time in Wiltshire...

Our next event now has a confirmed date: Saturday 28 January 2012.

This is our 1 day, 600 point, 7 game bonanza (yes I'm trying for Western tie-ins here). Each game will be a shoot-out with your opponent and the quickest on the draw is likely to win.

I'll stop now.

Tickets will be available from 5th November and are priced at £13 for the day including lunch. Rules Pack will be uploaded on the 5th as well assuming no spelling mistakes are found...

We've worked it out so that you get 55 minutes per game and 20 minutes rest in between. Going to be a very busy day. You'll need a Fistful of Dice. So if you've always fancied starting a new army and starting small then this is the event for you. Come on over to Wiltshire and join our Posse.

Oh dear. Sorry.

MAD has been...and gone!

And what a day it was too.

We started off with 60 doughnuts and finished it with 4: a superb result I think you'll agree. Oh the Event? Ah yes now that was a cracker.

It's at this point that I have to admit to taking my camera and then completely forgetting to take it out of the bag once I got caught up in the day. I know some cameras were in attendance so will try to track down some shots.

The hall looked splendid with 20 tables and 40 players all raring to go once Steve from Triple had carried out his safety briefing. We had representatives from most of the Codex although notable by their abscence were Black Templars, Daemons, Tau and Sisters. Maybe next time eh?

Everyone played in a superbly relaxed manner and we only had a few genuine rules queries to contend with all day. A special thanks to all the players for the manner in which they approached this non-rankings (there's an argument for another day) event.

So the results?

Winner: Kevin Sharpes (Grey Knights)
Runner-Up: Steve Pearce (Chaos Marines)
Third: Simon Priddis (Orks)
Best Army: Darren Ivey (Tyranids)
Most Sporting: Andy Barnett (Imperial Guard)

Thanks to Charlotte for the chilli, for everyone at Triple for their hospitality and for the event team for their invaluable help setting up and running the event. Nicely done everyone.

On to the next one :-)

Ticket Available for MAD!

As always player movement is fluid for events and we have a ticket going spare for MAD on 22nd October.

3 games. 1800 points. 40K. No Triple Spamming of units.

If you want the ticket then please contact me immediately on vonjenk@ntlworld.com

Elsewhere preparations are pretty much done. Army Lists are streaming in now and all looking very nice: be good to see some of the rarer units like Flash Gitz, Penal Legion and Rough Riders. All getting very exciting now with only a week and half to go...

One Month to go

MAD is only a month away. My how time flies...

Everything is coming together quite nicely now with all the forms, cards and certificates designed and on order. The trophies for this first one are going to be fairly standard affairs and are also on order. I've decided to expand to a 6th trophy so now the Third Place Player will be going home with a shiny new cup as well.

FAQ and Player list is up on the MAD2011 page.

Remaining jobs: scenery stock take. Possible T-Shirts but otherwise it's all looking fairly good so I'm hoping I don't roll any double-sixes in the next couple of weeks!

Army Lists have started to come in as well which is excellent. Just a reminder to everyone that they have until midnight on the 7th October to submit them.

Looking forward to welcoming the playing hordes to Westbury in a month.

When September Comes...

Well it's been a while. Work and home have conspired to keep me extremely busy and away from gaming. I expect to be back in the wargaming zone come September so expect to see regular updates at that time.

I can confirm that my Tzeentch boys came 10/12 at Attack. My son was joint top Most Sporting and that's a huge achievement for a 13 year old and I'm sure he could teach a lot of those so called more mature players a lesson or two. Yep - I'm proud of the lad.

MAD preparation is progressing well with the scenarios pretty much sorted now: just have to get them down on paper which should be an interesting challenge. If all goes well they should be available for the first weekend in September.

So enjoy the summer and I'll see you back here in September.

Compliance II - Quick Update

The weekend just gone saw me and my son attending Compliance II over in Westbury. The quick version is that my poor old Tzeentch CSM went 2-0-3 with the 3 losses all coming on the Saturday before Sunday saw me racing back up the table to finish, erm, 17 out of 22. Luckily for me my son finished in 20th so the drive home wasn't too bad...

Pictures and battle reports to follow as soon as I can plus further updates on the preparations for MAD.

It's been a busy week at work with a major project go live and apparently I need to crack on with the DIY at home: somewhere between those two I'll get the Compliance Report sorted!

M.A.D. Progress - 18 Weeks to go

I'll sort out a static things to do list on the MAD page at some point soon but with 18 weeks to go here's a list of all the things waiting to be done:
  1. Von Card - Designed. Awaiting final proofing
  2. Covert Operation Cards - Designed. Awaiting final proofing
  3. Super Secret Card - Designed. Awaiting final proofing
  4. Scenarios - 2nd Design Phase
  5. Trophies - under investigation
  6. Certificates - Designed. Awaiting final proofing
  7. Prizes - not started
  8. Scenery Check - tbc
  9. Referee Shirts - under investigation
  10. Odds & Sods - tbc
So how are we doing? I've completed something that's not on the list. Is that good? I've redesigned the site logo using a brilliant font from Metzone Design called guttural. I've added a link to the site on the links page.

Since finding this font I've now redesigned all the cards and am now on to the certificates. Printing them all will be the next challenge but one thing at a time eh....

Wow. Cup of tea please...

9 Days of Summer Craziness

MAD Latest

After 1 week of ticket sales we have 22 confirmed players for our Inaugural Event. We also have a further 25 possibles, maybes and need to check with the significant other!

We are very pleased with this response and offer our thanks to everyone who has taken an interest in M.A.D. It certainly bodes well for the future.

We're in the scenario design phase at the moment. Pretty much the first and last mission will be normal-ish but the middle one we're going to mess with. I've always hated the bases mission: it invariably ends in a draw and is of no use for tournament play. So in our design meetings we're starting with a simple question: what would happen if the bases could move?

Next up we're looking at designs for all the cards, certificates and trophies. It's 4 months away and the work is well and truly underway.

Site Changes

A quick update on some changes to the site. I had my first feedback today and as a result I've changed the pages around and hopefully made them easier to understand: feedback was quite right in that the naming of the pages was a little confusing.

Thank you for the feedback!

I've also added a Player Registration page so that you can sign up to be updated on future events as details emerge.

M.A.D. 2011 page has now been added and includes a list of the players currently signed up. If you want to add your name to the list then please email me vonjenk at ntlworld.com; you'll then need to fill in the entry form in the rules pack so that I can confirm your place.

Now to work out what to do with the Tournament Calendar...

Our first event is up and running!
Tickets are on sale for M.A.D. at £13 and the rules pack and entry form are on the Von Events tab.

Will look at creating a MAD tab shortly so that we can keep track of all those wonderful players who will be coming along to have some fun in Wiltshire.
